Originally built by the famous Revolutionary War Captain Elijah Wadsworth in 1774 and sold to Reverend Lyman Beecher in 1810 There on North Street in Litchfield CT. located just 7 miles from John Brown's Home. Lyman Beecher's entire family lived there in the early nineteenth century. Harriet Beecher Stowe described the home she was born in and grew up in in the 1878 book Poqanuc People. The house was moved across the street in the 1872 and was used as a sanitarium. In the early 20th century it was converted and served as a dorm for students at the Forman school. From 1927 thru 1929 Folk singer Pete Seeger lived in this house. Just seven years later he was playing Music with Woody Guthrie. This house was Originally a Rare type center hall hip roof timber frame House 32'x30'. A.18'x30' addition was added by Lyman Beecher in 1814 . The roof was changed to a full gable type around 1870. Every single thing has been saved including the original plaster walls, They are crated in plywood and have been removed whole. The dirt and fragments between the walls have even been saved for possible forensic analysis. The building is stored in four containers. We are seeking a person or organization that is financially capable to correctly restore this National Treasure.
