About Smithville: Smithville Texas is 42 miles from Austin and about 1-1/2 hrs from Houston on Hwy 71. The population is approximately 4,000 at last census. The town has maintained its historic quaintness. This Mayberry type town has become a popular movie location for over 20 years. It is an easy commute to Austin, only 35 miles from Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Recent business articles throughout Texas show that Smithville has become a town of interest to investors, particularly out of Austin.

The Smithville Historic District consists of a high concentration of late 19th and early 20th century brick commercial buildings. Stylistically, the buildings are representative of other central Texas towns. This turn of the century, vernacular, commercial architecture is characterized by brick load bearing walls, extended brick parapet walls highlighted with geometric detailing, 3 bay fronts, and a centrally located entrance flanked on either side by large display windows. The similarity of scale (1-3 stories), use, density, design, and period of construction constitute the vital factors in defining the district and reinforce its visual cohesiveness. The boundaries outline a region shaped somewhat like a Latin cross with the majority of the buildings standing along a 2 block area of Main Street (extending from the mid 100 to 300 block). This strip, however, is intersected at 2nd with a perpendicular, one block extension to either side of Main. As its name connotes. Main Street has been the center of the city's commercial activity since Smithville's founding. The broad thoroughfare extends north from the railroad tracks to a bluff overlooking the Colorado River. In fact, the entire town is situated on a plain between the Colorado River and nearby hills.

Behind this building is a large land area for expansion and/or parking.

The building is currently a large antique mall that has been in business for over 16 years. The antique mall business and inventory may be available for sale to the property buyer.
