|The Oscar M. Purnell House Circa 1900 Known for much of the past century by older residents of Snow Hill as the prominent dwelling of Oscar M. Purnell, this large Colonial Revival brick house boasts a colossal Ionic-columned front portico and a Tuscan-columned wraparound porch. Other noteworthy features, include Palladian window openings filled with colored glass and rusticated stone dressings around the various openings, add to the impressive nature of this center hall, double-pile brick dwelling. 4,000 square feet for the 1st and 2nd floors with 4 fireplaces on the first floor and one fireplace on the second. Lots of details and woodwork throughout the house. The third floor has 4 large rooms. Full basement broken into 3 large rooms. The outside has been completely renovated with new roof, new windows, paint and extensive repairs done by the county. The interior needs to be renovated, needing new heat, ac, electric and plumbing. A year ago the county deeded the building to the Town of Snow Hill, Maryland. Snow Hill is a small charming river town with the Pocomoke River running by two of the town’s parks and is noted for some of the best flat water canoeing, kayaking and fishing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Located 30 minutes from two Atlantic Ocean towns, Ocean City, Maryland and Chincoteague, Virginia. The building is located two blocks from the river and centrally located in the downtown district and is the county seat for Worcester County, MD.
The Town of Snow Hill is seeking development proposals in the form of a public/private partnership with the goal of deeding the property to a successful project.
